PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman was jailed over the weekend after officers said she shot through a door toward her former roommate.
Danette D. Gilbert, 50, was booked into the Clallam County jail Saturday night for investigation of first-degree assault, domestic violence.
Lower Elwha Police officers detained her outside a home on the 2500 block of Lower Elwha Road minutes after Cody Sutton reported at about 7:42 p.m. Saturday that a woman had fired a bullet through the door of his home, according to a press release.
Gilbert had previously lived at the home as a roommate, but had left belongings behind after moving out, according to the press release.
“Sutton was lying in bed when Gilbert walked into his residence uninvited and began yelling with him,” Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Shaun Minks said in the press release.
When Sutton escorted Gilbert outside, she allegedly shouted to someone to grab her gun for her.
Her friends didn’t get the gun for her, so she went to get it herself, according to the press release.
Sutton told deputies he watched as Gilbert went back to the truck and retrieved her 30-06 rifle from behind the backseat.
Sutton said he grabbed the barrel of the rifle to point it away from him and kicked Gilbert so he could retreat back inside the home for safety.
He used rope to tie the front door shut. That’s when Gilbert allegedly “stormed” around the backside of the residence, telling the landlord she was going to kill Sutton, according to the news release.
Gilbert yelled through the door, which Sutton was blocking, that he had three seconds to move because she was going to shoot, according to the report.
He ran into the kitchen as she counted down from three, before she fired the round through the back door, he told police.
Gilbert allegedly ejected the spent shell and loaded another live round into the chamber before hiding the rifle under a trailer.
Elwha police detained her minutes later until deputies arrived and started the investigation.
