PORT ANGELES — The long-awaited opening of Westport Shipyard’s yacht factory could be as soon as early November, according to Westport’s Port Angeles plant manager Lee Taubeneck.
“We won’t have occupancy of the building until Nov. 1. We have tentatively set Nov. 10 as the grand opening — we are checking with the city,” Taubeneck said.
After the grand opening, workers will set up the factory’s machinery and probably begin laminating the first yacht hull in January, he said.
Westport Shipyard’s new building on Marine Drive near Tumwater Street totals 100,000 square feet, said Dan Powers, project manager for the builder, Fisher and Sons of Burlington.
He said Fisher used Port Angeles, Sequim and Clallam County subcontractors to complete the building.
