PORT ANGELES — A free nine-week Winter Weight Loss Challenge begins Monday, with fitness classes offered for those taking part.
Winners will be those who lose the most body fat.
Port Angeles Anytime Fitness staff felt that emphasizing fat loss would encourage contestants to choose healthy nutrition and exercise programs.
The goal in this challenge, structured like a similar one in August, is to encourage people to make good nutrition and exercise a part of their ongoing lifestyle.
Prize money
There will be both men’s and women’s categories, which will split the prize money.
Colton Boddy, owner of Anytime Fitness, donated $1,000 in prizes.
Challengers can choose any nutrition program and any exercise program they feel will work for them.
“This challenge is about making long-term health choices, not about forcing someone to buy something, follow a specific diet or work out in a specific place,” Boddy said.
Weigh-in dates will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Oct. 9 at Anytime Fitness, 112 DelGuzzi Drive.
The gym will be open to nonmembers taking part in the challenge. Participants using the gym must pay the monthly club fee, but challengers are not required to use the gym.

Garrett Leffers, a Peninsula College student and Anytime Fitness intern, designed the $1,000 weight-loss challenge earlier this year as a means to inspire Clallam County residents, and Boddy donated prize money.
