PORT ANGELES — Though still under construction, Port Angeles’ esplanade project along the downtown waterfront is having a positive effect on the local economy through the numerous Clallam County-based companies working on the project.
Eight consultants and five contractors, all from either Port Angeles or the Sequim area, are involved in the $3.9 million esplanade project, according to information on the city of Port Angeles’ website.
The esplanade project will extend a concrete promenade over the water and improve the adjacent section of West Railroad Avenue.
“I think it’s extremely exciting to actually have the project producing jobs on the ground for local companies,” said Nathan West, Port Angeles community and economic development director.
The design, engineering and speciality consultants based in Port Angeles are Zenovic & Associates, Alisanne Design, Westech, Inc., Unger Engineering, Inc., Wengler Surveying & Mapping, and SCUBA Supplies Co.
Those from Sequim are Shreffler Environmental and NTI Engineering.
Carlsborg-based Primo Construction is the lead construction contractor, West said, and has subcontracted with Olympic Electric, Angeles Concrete and Amidst Vision Photography, all from Port Angeles, and Sequim-based Allform Welding.
“We think that it’s really important for the project that it does contribute to local economic development,” West said.
The esplanade work, expected to wrap up by late summer, and the West End Park are the first two phases of the city’s total $17 million waterfront and transportation improvement plan.
