PORT ANGELES — A long-running water line replacement project should wrap up today, according to city officials.
“We’re getting close to finishing. We had the last tie-in today. Then we are paving Friday,” said City Civil Engineer Terri Partch on Thursday.
The initial project contract was awarded July 7 to Snelson Cos. Inc. of Sedro-Woolley for $1,191,010.71, including tax.
The final contract amount, including several change orders, won’t be available for another month, Partch said.
The project began in August and was scheduled to be completed in December.
It required numerous shutdowns in the area around Olympic National Park headquarters so the new water transmission main could be tied into the city’s existing water system.
Problems with old valves
Partch said the numerous delays were caused by problems with shutting down old valves on the aging water line.
Sometimes the valves wouldn’t shut completely, allowing water to leak through, Partch said.
