Port Angeles water exhibition to flow creations of 14 artists

PORT ANGELES — An artists’ reception early next month will celebrate the opening of an exhibit focused on water.

The reception will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the PUB Gallery of Art on the Port Angeles campus of Peninsula College at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Works in the “Water” exhibit will include paintings, photographs, mixed media, collage, video and sculpture by 13 North Olympic Peninsula artists and one Seattle artist.

Artists who are exhibiting are:

■ Clay Murdach, Doug Parent and Jeff Tocher, all of Port Angeles.

■ David Eisenhour of Port Hadlock.

■ Michael Berman of Port Ludlow.

■ Marie Amerson, Karen Hackenberg, Suzanne Lamon, Harold Nelson, Counsel Langley, Frank Samuelson and Stephen Yates, all of Port Townsend.

■ Harry von Stark of Quilcene.

■ Susan Robb of Seattle.

Other artists also will be a part of the exhibit via “Water, Water Everywhere,” a continuing video presentation.

The “Water” exhibition and the supplemental “Water, Water Everywhere” videos will run through Dec. 5.

Hours for the PUB gallery are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Admission is free.

Part of celebration

Peninsula College art instructor Michael Paul Miller said the exhibition was organized as part of Peninsula College’s celebration of the United Nation’s declaration of 2013 as “The International Year of Water Cooperation.”

“We’re very fortunate to have so many outstanding artists in our immediate vicinity,” Miller said.

“This exhibition provides a rare opportunity for people on the Peninsula to see the work of 14 regional artists collected in one spot and the variety of expression each brings to the idea of water,” he continued.

“I think those who visit the gallery will find the exhibit offers unique and powerful perspectives on water which may challenge their own views and what it means to global survival.”

Support for the exhibition is provided by NeoData Endowment Puffin Foundation Ltd.

Water around world

Special campuswide programs and class activities centered on the theme of water around the world will be presented throughout the academic year.

Activities will focus on such issues as war, health, the environment, the global economy, culture and immigration as they relate to water.
