Penalties for violations of Stage 4 and Stage 5 emergency rules in Port Angeles range from warnings to fines and water service shutoffs.
Meter readers will patrol the affected areas to check for violators, city Public Works Director Glenn Cutler said.
A Stage 4 “emergency”‘ water shortage means mandatory outdoor restrictions and indoor conservation.
Mandatory outdoor restrictions include no car or boat washing, no lawn watering and no washing paved areas.
Laundry and dishwashing should be deferred, and bathing should be shortened.
Any broken or leaking pipes must be repaired within 48 hours.
A Stage 5 water shortage or “regional disaster” means water rationing, and emergency water distribution for customers without water.
Water rationing means restricting residential users to a certain number of gallons per day per person, and restricting nonresidential users to a percentage of their historical usage.
