PORT ANGELES — The public will have a chance to see artifacts recovered from an automobile found in the depths of Lake Crescent earlier this year.
The exhibit opens Saturday in conjunction with Port Angeles History Weekend.
The artifacts from the car of Russel and Blanch Warren, a Forks couple who disappeared in the lake in July 1929, were donated by the National Park Service to the Clallam County Historical Society earlier this year.
The society will display the items in the Port Angeles Federal Building, 138 W. First St., until summer.
“We are very pleased with the donation,” said Kathy Monds, an administrator for the Clallam County Historical Society. “Our job is to collect and protect artifacts that are Clallam County history.”
The society is funding the artifacts’ preservation in part with a $250 donation — the amount of the reward offered in 1929 for information regarding the Warrens’ disappearance.
Monds said the Warren exhibit will be included with a dozen others, including a new display of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s trip to Port Angeles in 1937.
