PORT ANGELES — Two flat tires couldn’t stop Glens and Friends but it did make it an interesting race at the sixth annual Big Hurt endurance and ironman competition on Sunday.
Mitch McDougall of Port Angeles suffered two flat tires in the opening leg, the 17-mile mountain bike race, but his team — Glens and Friends — won the team competition for the fifth year in a row.
Glens and Friends received a strong challenge from a team captained by Seattle’s Jake Bartholomy thanks to the flattened tires while Normon Thibault of Nanaimo, British Columbia, won the ironman competition for the second straight year and Marg Fedyna of Edmonton, Alberta, was the ironwoman winner for the first time.
Connie Austin of Port Angeles, who was the top ironwoman last year, took third in the event on Sunday.
Feral Kitties won the women’s team competition for the second consecutive year with two new members.
