Port Angeles: Try decay-fighting alternative to fluoridation, group asks Board of Health

PORT ANGELES — Fluoride opponents on Tuesday urged the Clallam County Board of Health to support xylitol as a natural tooth-decay fighter over fluoridation of city water.

“I have to request that you seriously consider this,” Mary Meyer asked the county commissioners, acting at the Board of Health during its monthly meeting.

“This could be an alternative to fluoridation because it is completely safe, and it’s not controversial and it is effective.”

Meyer and Eloise Kailin, a Blyn physician and longtime county environmental activist, informed the Board of Health about xylitol, and made a similar presentation Tuesday night to the Port Angeles City Council.
