PORT ANGELES — Two of the four Clallam Bay residents killed in a car wreck Saturday morning were cited earlier that morning for alcohol possession, a State Patrol spokesman confirmed Sunday.
The four were heading home from a spring break party in the Four Seasons subdivision east of Port Angeles when they were stopped by a trooper about a block away at 1:10 a.m., State Patrol spokesman Brian George said Sunday.
The subdivision is south of U.S. Highway 101 in the Morse Creek valley.
The driver, John Anthony Hubble, 20, was given a breathalyzer test and was not cited.
“Hubble was the designated driver and they were being smart, honest and cooperative,” George said, quoting a report by John Ryan, who was the trooper who pulled the youths over.
Cited for being minors in possession after testing positive for alcohol consumption were Erik Michael Kroeger and Damien Scott Anderson, both 18.
The youngest crash victim, Cassidy James Hunter, 16, was tested but not cited, George said.
The spokesman said an autopsy by the county coroner will determine the victims’ blood-alcohol levels at the time of the crash and whether alcohol was involved in causing the car to fly off state Highway 112 and land upside down in the Pysht River.
