PORT ANGELES — Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly set fires to two public restrooms at The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave.
The boy, whose name was not released, was taken into custody Friday on two counts of first-degree arson, police officer Gerald Swayze said Saturday.
The boy allegedly used a lighter to set a toilet seat cover dispenser on fire in the north men’s restroom early Friday evening, scorching part of the wall, Swayze said.
A witness reported the fire to the manager of Landing’s Restaurant and Dockside Lounge, who extinguished the small blaze and notified police.
Swayze later reviewed a surveillance tape of the mall’s south exit and recognized a boy whom he suspected to be the culprit, he said.
The boy also allegedly lit some wall insulation on fire in the unisex south restroom Nov. 18, Swayze said.
