PORT ANGELES — Informal discussions are underway on replacing Horizon Air, which will stop flights between Seattle and Port Angeles effective Jan. 7.
The pullout will leave Port Angeles with no scheduled passenger airline service, angry residents who relied on Horizon to connect with flights in Seattle — and an empty terminal at William R. Fairchild International Airport.
Horizon said it is stopping service because the airline is losing money in Port Angeles.
The four daily Seattle-Port Angeles roundtrip flights average only 44 percent full, well below Horizon’s system-wide average of 63 percent, the airline said Thursday.
“We are talking with a number of potential carriers — but nothing formal yet,” said Port of Port Angeles Executive Director Clyde Boddy.
The Port wants to find another airline as soon as possible, Boddy said.
