PORT ANGELES — Interest in bringing the historic ferry Kalakala here remains — but the organizer most identified with the effort hasn’t heard anything yet from the ferry’s owner.
“I was just about as surprised as anyone,” said Port Angeles resident Bill Zynda, referring to a Sunday story in The Seattle Times regarding the vessel’s imminent departure from its current Lake Union moorage.
Zynda said he has “kept the door open” with Kalakala Foundation President Peter Bevis and Executive Director Art Skolnik about Port Angeles as a possible home port for the historic ship.
However, the foundation would have to be open to mooring the vessel here as a permanent display, rather than using Port Angeles as just another stop on a cruise tour route, Zynda said.
“That is what shut down talks the last time. If they should ever change their mind, we are open to talking to them about it,” Zynda said.
