Dan Wilder does not like the three-hour drive to Sea-Tac International Airport that looms each time he has to catch a flight.
But the Port Angeles resident and owner of Wilder Auto Center says he would rather make the journey by car than risk missing his connections by flying on a delayed Horizon Air flight from William R. Fairchild International Airport.
“Now I’m just flying out of Seattle,” he said.
Like Wilder, other local residents have had less-than-satisfactory experiences with delayed or canceled Horizon flights, even as the airline boasts an on-time performance rating surpassing the current industry standard.
From January to April of this year, Horizon flights from Port Angeles to Sea-Tac left 91 percent on time, which is measured within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time, Horizon Air spokeswoman Cheryl Temple said last week.
Compared with a current 75 percent on-time performance for the entire commercial airline industry, “This is good news,” Temple said.
“That’s probably the best number in our system of 43 cities,” Temple said. “We were very surprised because we know that Port Angeles has problems.”
