PORT ANGELES — A new sister company of Cascade General Corp. is filling the topside ship repair void created by the recent closure of Pacific Rim Industrial & Marine Engineering.
Washington Marine Repair, owned by Cascade General’s parent company Shipyard America LLC, began operations this week in Port Angeles and Bellingham.
Shipyard America President and Chief Executive Officer Frank Foti said Thursday that his new company will phase out the local operations of Portland, Ore.-based Cascade General over the next six months, leaving Washington Marine as the sole tanker repair company in Port Angeles Harbor.
“I am excited to have a more substantial relationship with the people here and to be a more substantial employer than I was with Cascade,” Foti said.
Cascade will continue topside repair in its Portland shipyard, where a dwindling number of tankers has led Foti to seek business elsewhere.
Washington Marine will open an office at 202 N. Cedar St. and lease a shop on Marine Drive from the Port of Port Angeles.
The space was previously leased by Pacific Rim Industrial & Marine Engineering, or PRIME.
