Port Angeles senior center may hike fees, cut staffer position

PORT ANGELES — The Senior Services and Community Center might have to double its membership fees over the next three years and not fill a new part-time office assistant position to close a $21,600 gap in its 2006 budget.

The City Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance adopting the proposed 2006 membership fee increase at a meeting set for 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission reviewed the proposed fee increases and staff cut at a meeting last week.

The parks board voted to send the proposed fee increases to the City Council for a public hearing.

But board members also asked city staff to review the city’s rental fees and market the city’s buildings better to increase rental income.

Fee schedule

The proposed annual senior center membership increases for city residents are from $10 a year to $15 in 2006, to $18 in 2007 and to $20 in 2008.

The proposed increases for nonresidents of the city are from $15 a year to $23 in 2006, to $27 in 2007 and to $30 in 2008.

The proposed 2006 increase is projected to increase the senior center’s membership fee income by $8,310 — from $24,300 to $32,610.
