PORT ANGELES — City parks and recreation staff are looking for one good tree.
The tree, ideally a spruce or fir between 35 and 40 feet tall, will be the centerpiece of the city’s yearly holiday display at the Conrad Dyar Memorial Fountain at the south end of North Laurel Street, said Corey Delikat, city parks and recreation director.
The city has had luck in recent years securing free, donated trees from local property owners, Delikat said, with one individual providing the past few trees.
So far this year, though, no trees yet offered have fit the bill.
“We’re kind of out of trees and people,” Delikat said, adding that a tree needs to be secured by Thanksgiving weekend.
“It’s been awhile [since] we’ve had to advertise.”
Flatbed truck offered
City crews will provide a flatbed truck with attached boom lift to remove the tree from a landowner’s property, Delikat explained, though the tree would need to be easily accessible.
“It’s got to be kind of in the open,” he said.
City crews will pick up the tree from nearly any property between Joyce and Sequim, Delikat added.
The tree could be chopped up after the holiday season ends and returned to the owner or donated to charity, Delikat said, depending on the owner’s wishes.
The owner of the selected tree will be recognized by special proclamation from the mayor and will be featured on the city’s website, Delikat added.
