The Port Angeles School District will need to chop $1.7 million in expenses to have a balanced budget next year.
Amid budget cuts made by the state Legislature last week, the district will lose an additional $636,000 more than previously expected, financial manager Jim Jones said Friday.
“We’re scrambling right now,” Jones said.
School officials are examining expenses, looking for anything that could be cut with the least effect on staff and students, he said.
On Monday, Jones and Superintendent Gary Cohn will deliver new proposals to the School Board on how to close the deficit in the $34.4 million budget for fiscal 2002-2003.
This list of recommendations will be discussed at a School Board work session Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Central Service Building, 216 E. Fourth St.
