PORT ANGELES – Scott Brodhun, director of facilities, maintenance, athletics and technology for the Port Angeles School District, will leave the district for new position in Petaluma, Calif.
Brodhun is a Port Angeles native who has worked for the district since 2000.
As Petaluma city Parks and Recreation director, Brodhun will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating activities and functions.
“I am excited by the opportunity to return to the work of providing parks and recreation services, and very much look forward to the challenges and rewards involved in providing that service,” Brodhun said.
Prior to his position at the schools, Brodhun was director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Port Angeles.
As director, he secured grant funding for a variety of projects and wrote the Comprehensive Park and Recreation Plan.
Brodhun earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Western Washington University in 1980.
He also oversaw development of the Senior Community Center and the Vern Burton Community Center renovation.
During his tenure at the Port Angeles School District, Brodhun played a key role in the transitions when schools were closed down due to declining enrollment numbers.
“Scott has been instrumental in achievement of the district’s priorities, particularly during the recent transition planning,” schools Superintendent Gary Cohn said in a written statement.
“He has worn a lot of different hats in the district.
“Scott’s expertise has been critical in developing facilities planning for a smooth transition for schools in September.
“He stepped up to the plate during last year’s technology department consolidation and relocation to the Port Angeles High School campus, and he was clearly a central player and leader in the development of the new Olympic League.”
Brodhun headed up the efforts for the renovation of Port Angeles High School after vandals set fires throughout the school.
He also is working on developing a three-year technology plan for the district.
“The departure of Scott Brodhun leaves a void not only in the family of the Port Angeles School District, but in the leadership of the Port Angeles community,” School Board President Charlie McClain said.
“Scott has led by example, perseverance and devotion.
“He will be missed not only by those that know him, but by those whose lives he unknowingly affected in so many small ways.”
Brodhun’s involvement in local sports programs is widely known, particularly his involvement and coaching with Wilder Baseball, which he started in 1979.
“Tracie and I love Port Angeles and obviously have deep roots and many cherished relationships in this community,” Brodhun said.
“We have been truly blessed to have been able to raise our girls here.
“We have long planned a relocation for this time in our life, and we very much look forward to becoming part of the Petaluma community.”
