PORT ANGELES — Public pleas to keep teachers on staff and cut administrative office positions instead were unanswered as School Board members approved budget cuts that may eliminate more than 12 teachers.
School Board members Monday night approved the budget cuts they made at a work session last Tuesday.
Cuts include reducing classified positions and teacher workdays, trimming extracurricular activities and making reductions in school administrative staffs.
The cuts voted during a board meeting at Monroe School on Monday evening slice $1.59 million to almost balance a projected budget of $34.37 million for the 2002-2003 school year.
The district still must cut about $100,000 to balance the budget.
