Port Angeles School Board to see budget draft, consider lunch price increases Thursday

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will get a first look at the 2014-15 operating budget at a study session at 5 p.m. Thursday.

During a regular meeting, which will follow the study session at 7 p.m., the board will consider a price increase for paid school lunches.

Both meetings will be in the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.

According to a preliminary budget, the district has projected annual revenues of $40,615,883 million and an operating budget of $40,432,696 million in the 2014-15 school year.

The budget includes converting part-time counselors at all elementary schools to full-time counselors, the addition of three teachers for the district’s new highly capable program and new music and physical education teachers.

No action will be taken during the study session.

The board is expected to vote in a final budget for the school year Aug. 28.

The board could take a vote on school lunch prices.

District staff members have recommended the board approve a 15-cent increase in paid lunch prices.

The price for lunches for elementary school students would increase from $2.10 to $2.25. Middle and high school lunches would increase from $2.35 to $2.50.

Reduced and free meal program recipients would not be affected.

The increase would not apply to breakfast and milk-only prices.
