PORT ANGELES — The incumbent touted experience while the challenger offered a different perspective on issues as candidates for the Port Angeles School District board debated for the first time Tuesday night.
Incumbent Charlie McClain said an experienced School Board member is needed to face the challenges of the next four years.
Challenger Pete Peterson said new ideas and perspectives are needed to help recapture community trust.
The forum, videotaped before an audience at Port Angeles City Hall, was sponsored by the PDN and Peninsula News Network, which broadcasts on Wave Broadband cable channel 3.
The forum will be cablecast Thursday at 7 p.m.
A third candidate, Kathy Gonzales, 50, dropped out of the race Monday for personal reasons, but not in time to have her named removed from the Sept. 16 primary ballot.
Peterson and McClain will compete Nov. 4 during the general election for the four-year seat on the School District’s governing body. They are running for Position 1 on the School Board
