PORT ANGELES — Nine employees were officially laid off by the School Board during a meeting Monday night.
School Board Vice President Charlie McClain said Tuesday evening that the following people were laid off:
* Custodians — Gary Boyd, Deena Christian, Alvin Johnson and George Minor.
* Para-educators — Tamara Elliott, Anna Luszcz and Melissa Miles.
* Secretaries — Bonnie Hansen and Judy Johnson.
The employees have received their reduction in force notices from the Port Angeles School District, but union and district officials say they are continuing to try to find positions for the workers.
“We are hoping more people will be able to move into vacant positions in the district,” McClain said.
The layoffs — effective at the end of the school year — are part of a $1.7 million spending reduction needed to balance the fiscal 2002-03 budget.
