PORT ANGELES — The lure of 95 well-paying jobs at the Port Angeles Hardwood LLC sawmill attracted 60 applicants before noon Tuesday at the Clallam County WorkSource office downtown.
“We had three rooms full of people filling out applications,” said WorkSource specialist Vickie Kuchan.
“They were spilling over into the work stations.”
The sawmill now under construction at the Eclipse Industrial Park is on schedule to begin operations in December.
The plant is scheduled to be fully operational by early 2006.
Tuesday was the first day employment applications were being accepted for the eagerly awaited jobs.
Positions include benchman, boiler/kiln operators, edger operators, forklift operators, gang saw operators, graders, log clerk, yard equipment operators, supervisor and trimmer operator.
