PORT ANGELES — A “Save the Kalakala” meeting set for Thursday will give people the chance to meet the new owner of the historical 1935 ferry and learn how the community can help save it.
The Port Angeles Kalakala Alliance will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Tempest, 535 E. First St. in Port Angeles, said spokeswoman Cherie Kidd.
“This is a public meeting for people to meet Steve Rodrigues. He will present his program for financing and bringing the Kalakala to Port Angeles,” Kidd said.
Rodrigues spoke briefly at Monday’s Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce luncheon. He had the “distinguished honor” of trying to save the Kalakala, Rodrigues told Chamber members.
“This will be an opportunity to find out what he wants to do and how we can save the Kalakala and bring it to Port Angeles,” Kidd said.
Rodrigues, a Tumwater developer, bought the Kalakala through his company, Lost Horizons, almost two months ago. He is trying to find new moorage for the vessel.
