A judge is expected to issue a ruling this week on allowing Bruce Rowan to move into an unlocked ward at Western State Hospital.
Rowan, 38, currently remains in a locked ward in the Steilacoom mental hospital after a jury found him innocent by reason of insanity for killing his wife in 1998 at their rural Port Angeles home.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge George L. Wood will issue a ruling today or Friday following testimony in early July on whether to allow the former doctor to enter the hospital’s Community Program.
The move could mean Rowan’s eventual release from the hospital. Rowan testified last month that he does not intend to return to the North Olympic Peninsula.
