More than 18,000 rubber ducks will race down Daishowa America’s mill canal in Port Angeles at noon today.
It’s the annual Great Olympic Peninsula Duck Derby, benefiting the Olympic Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Sequim Rotary Club’s community projects.
The race offers 54 chances to win more than $25,000 in prizes, including a new 2001 pickup truck from Wilder Toyota in Port Angeles.
Events begin with pre-race entertainment and the Kids’ Pavilion at 11 a.m.
A Very Important Duck (VID) race begins at 11:30 a.m., with special ducks sponsored by businesses. It’s followed by the main duck derby.
Last-minute derby tickets can be purchased before noon at “Duck Quackers Central,” next to the Daishowa canal on the west end of Port Angeles.
More than 3,000 people lined the banks of the canal to witness the event last year.
