PORT ANGELES — Testimony Wednesday in Thomas Martin Roberts’ murder trial revealed technical evidence that may indicate Roberts knew what he was doing after he shot and killed a deputy sheriff.
A spent shotgun shell seen on Roberts’ porch after Clallam County Deputy Wally Davis’ shooting was later found in an upstairs garbage can, witnesses said.
That shell may have been fired from an Ithaca 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun found inside Roberts’ house after he surrendered to authorities Aug. 6, 2000, at his Ennis Creek Road home.
The testimony from Washington State Patrol detectives and scientists marked the third day in the trial of Roberts, charged with aggravated first-degree murder in the Aug. 5, 2000, shooting of Davis.
