PORT ANGELES — Residents participating in a city parks workshop Wednesday called for new park facilities, more public restrooms and a westward route for the Waterfront Trail.
The meeting was the last of four neighborhood workshops on the future needs for parks, open spaces, recreational activities, senior services and fine arts events in the city.
“It was a good meeting. People were engaged,” Parks and Recreation Director Marc Connelly said. “They talked and offered ideas.”
The information will assist city staff in updating the city’s comprehensive park, open-space and recreation plan, which establishes priorities for parks and recreation services through 2009.
Meeting participants talked about improvements for Shane Park, public restrooms, and William Shore Memorial Pool, as well as the need for indoor sports facilities and a new Peabody Creek park, Connelly said.
They also wanted the city to explore developing city-owned property at the intersection of 10th and N streets and partnering with the Port Angeles School District to develop fields at Stevens Middle School, he said.
Finally, a westward route for the city’s Waterfront Trail and more restrooms to serve park facilities were proposed.
