PORT ANGELES — Tents of rainbow colors and extra events for survivors will greet those attending the sixth annual Port Angeles Relay for Life.
The relay, with the theme of the “Wizard of Oz — There’s No Place Like Hope,” will begin today at the Clallam County Fairgrounds.
Contests and entertainment will be held throughout the 24-hour period.
Each of the 30 teams picked a different color for a tent to make a “rainbow” for the event, and all of them will use the theme in a different way.
The relay is an annual fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society.
Each team worked to raise money before the event.
Also, donations will be taken at the relay for the American Cancer Society.
The relay will begin at 3 p.m. with a “soft start,” said Nancy White, co-chairwoman with Debra White of the survivor committee.
The opening ceremony will be at 6 p.m., followed by the traditional lap around the track by those who have survived cancer and their caregivers.
A second survivors lap will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.
