PORT ANGELES — A 15-year veteran of the Clallam Public Defenders office has been tapped to lead the group of lawyers tasked with giving legal representation to poor people accused of everything from drunken driving to murder.
Harry Gasnick, 48, was selected last week to fill the position of executive director.
He follows Terry Mulligan, who left the position to take a job with the state Office of Public Defense in Olympia in early September.
“I’m looking forward to the challenges that this presents,” Gasnick, of Sequim, said Saturday.
“I hope I’m up to meeting those challenges,” he added with a smile.
Tom Angier, president of the board that oversees the office, said Thursday that Gasnick had been selected.
“We are very pleased and very excited,” Angier said.
Gasnick started his career as an assistant prosecutor for the city of Spokane. He has also been a deputy prosecutor in Kootenai County, Idaho, and has worked for private firms.
