Port Angeles’ Pride on the Pier event set for Sunday

Music, vendors to be featured during three-hour event

PORT ANGELES — Pride on the Pier will bring a splash of rainbow to City Pier on Sunday.

“We’re really trying to be a place for connection and community, and help people within the queer community and allies connect with each other,” said Navarra Carr, one of the organizers for the event.

“Whether you’re in the city or you’re in a small town, you should be able to be in a community that supports you,” said Beau Gipson, another event organizer.

The event, which will take place between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at 222 N. Lincoln St., is free to attend and open to all ages.

The emcee will be local drag queen Blake McCabe. It will kick off with live music by Audrey.

There will be a break in the music at about 3:15 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to highlight speeches from community members.

Afterward, music will return to the pier with DJ Freeze.

While listening to music, attendees can stroll between 17 vendors that will be on and around the pier, organizers said.

The list includes Welly’s Real Fruit Ice Cream, Sour Baby Bakery, Abby Henson’s Cupcakes, Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services, Thrift Star!, North Olympic Healthcare Network, Clallam Pro Bono Attorneys, Party for Socialism and Liberation, SoCal2PNW, Art By Dykes, BIPoC and Pride Outdoors, Thistle and Iris Jewelry, Fawn Araujo, Dragon Den Studio, Emily Randall for Congress and Keith Dorwick.

Carr said the vendors will highlight queer businesses and those who work specifically with the queer community.

“We’re excited to have them present,” Carr said. “We have a wonderful list of vendors.”

Gipson is excited for this year’s turnout and how the event will provide people with the opportunity to “be welcome and be loved.”

“It’s bringing a little piece of me to the community and the town,” Gipson said. “It’s an opportunity to show the type of person I am and the love that I have.”

Carr said, “To me, Pride month is an opportunity to remember what we work towards during the year and also celebrate our successes and come together in community.”

Carr said this is the fourth year they have hosted Pride in Port Angeles. Each year, they try to make the event “bigger and better than years before,” she said.

Gipson said Sunday will be a preview of what’s to come in the future.

“As the years come, we’re only going to get louder and prouder,” he said.
