Port Angeles police urge locked doors after Sunday crime spree

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Police Department is urging residents to lock their doors after a woman allegedly walked into several unlocked homes early Sunday and stole and crashed a car.

“I’m shocked that many people go to bed and leave their doors unlocked,” said Sgt. Kevin Miller.

Miller said police are familiar with the suspect and will arrest her when she is found.

She is described as being in her 20s, having blonde shoulder-length hair, wearing dark clothing and was described to police as being sweaty, paranoid and nervous and wielding a knife.

“She wasn’t trying to hurt or necessarily steal anything, though she did those things,” Miller said. “Her intent was not to harm anyone or anything like that.

“I just want people to be reminded to lock their things so they don’t wake up with somebody in their house.”

She allegedly barged into an unlocked home in the 700 block of East First Street and said someone was chasing after her.

He said she stole a Toyota Prius from a home on the 700 block of East Fourth Street; the vehicle was unlocked with the keys inside.

She then allegedly crashed the Prius on the 1000 block of South Eunice Street and fled on foot.

Then she allegedly prowled a car on the 700 block of East 11th Street and entered a home on the same street.

She told the homeowners she was being chased by someone.

She then entered another home in the 900 block of South Francis Street and told the homeowners she was being chased.

Police say she again entered another house on the 300 block of Viewcrest Avenue.

“We know they are related because she left nuggets from the previous crime at the new crime,” he said.

She allegedly took items while inside the homes, then hid them in the next home she went to, he said.

Port Angeles Police are encouraging residents to secure their homes and property and take crime prevention measures after the alleged crime spree.

“I don’t want to see her get hurt and I don’t want to see residents scared,” he said. “I want to make sure people know we’re going to solve this.”

Miller believes the woman might have gone into other people’s homes or vehicles and is urging them to call him at 360-452-4545.
