Port Angeles police seek wanted man

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles police are looking today for Christopher M. White, a Port Angeles man wanted on a felony warrant.

The 22-year-old was spotted on the 1100 block of Front Street shortly after noon.

“He has since eluded us,” Port Angeles Deputy Chief of Police Brian Smith said.

An active search is underway this afternoon.

“We’ve got probable cause to arrest him on felony domestic violence assault,” Smith said.

“He’s got a DOC (state Department of Corrections) warrant as well.”

White is described as 5-foot-9, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. A clothing description was not available.

Officers believe White ducked low in the passenger side of a green car that drove off before law enforcement could set up a perimeter along Front, Chambers, Caroline and Race streets.

“He is a known fugitive to us,” Smith said.

Police have no evidence that White is armed.

He is considered to be no more dangerous than “anybody else involved in violence,” Smith said.

White pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in May 2011 for attacking a woman in January 2011.

He was ordered to 13 months in jail and 18 months community custody, court papers said.

White was also charged with second-degree assault in February 2010 for allegedly attacking a Clallam County jail inmate along with three others.

He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of fourth-degree assault as an accomplice to that attack, and ordered to 240 hours of community service.

In 2009, White was charged with first-degree kidnapping and second-degree assault for allegedly attacking and threatening a man in a Carlsborg parking lot.

He pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for that incident and ordered to eight months in jail.

Smith said White’s current arrest warrant is about a week old.

“It looks to me like he committed a fresh crime, and he was non-compliant (with DOC) in some fashion,” Smith said.

Anyone who sees White is asked to phone 9-1-1.
