PORT ANGELES — Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision at Pine and W. 16th streets Friday night.
At about 8:54 p.m., Officers J.J. Smith and Luke Brown responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision at the intersection at Pine and W. 16th streets. A vehicle driven by a female was going north through the intersection when it was struck by a dark-colored Chevrolet Camaro.
The Camaro left the scene southbound on Black Diamond Road. The female driver was was uninjured.
Sgt. Shaun Minks of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office located the Camaro traveling back northbound on Black Diamond Road.
At about 9:01 p.m., Brown attempted to stop the Camaro but it accelerated away. Brown pursued the vehicle from Pine Street, east on U.S. Highway 101 to W. Lauridsen Blvd. The vehicle then traveled south on Race St. to Mount Angeles Road, turning onto Scrivener Road and then Doss Road.
Police report that the driver abandoned the Camaro and fled on foot in the 5400 block of Doss Road. Police did not apprehend the driver.
Police Angeles police have impounded the vehicle as evidence and a search warrant is being served on the vehicle.
They report that the license plate, vehicle identification number and license tab number of the 80s-model Camaro are all invalid.
Officers are following leads about the driver’s identity and an investigation is ongoing.
