PORT ANGELES — City police released Wednesday an image of a man suspected of robbing a Port Angeles pizza shop Monday.
The grainy image taken from surveillance video prior to the robbery shows a man sitting in a parking lot east of Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza at 1405 E. Front St.
Police suspect he is the man who robbed the restaurant at 2:05 p.m. The robber covered his face with a scarf and waved what police think was a replica of a gun.
Port Angeles police “would like a call” from anyone who recognizes the man, Deputy Chief Brian Smith said Wednesday.
The robber is described as a 6-foot white man in his 30s with a husky build.
He was seen wearing a camouflage baseball cap and a Hawaiian shirt with images of cars over a dark sweatshirt and dark pants.
Police believe the robber likely used a black replica handgun in the robbery.
Smith has described the replica as closely resembling a Colt model 1911 handgun.
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the pizza shop.
Police recovered a Hawaiian shirt matching the description at Caroline and Vine streets shortly after the robbery.
A replica gun and a scarf were found near the intersection of Sixth and Vine streets.
Officers and a police dog attempted to track the robber, but the search was called off at about 3:30 p.m.
Port Angeles police, Clallam County sheriff’s deputies, Olympic Peninsula Narcotic Enforcement Team detectives, Lower Elwha Klallam tribal police, National Park Service rangers and Coast Guard crews participated in the search.
