PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man has been jailed for investigation of one count of first-degree assault, though police are still looking for a key piece of evidence: the alleged victim.
Port Angeles police booked Scott Allan Schroeder, 25, into the Clallam County jail Tuesday after finding him with the help of Clallam County sheriff’s deputies and Border Patrol agents at about 1:45 that morning at a residence in the 53000 block of state Highway 112, Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said Wednesday.
Police know the name of the man Schroeder allegedly stabbed but have not been able to find him or determine the extent of his injuries, he said.
“We’re piecing together a bunch of different threads of this story,” Smith said.
From talking with witnesses, Smith said detectives learned Schroeder allegedly stabbed a man three times in the torso with a 4-inch fixed blade knife during a fight over some personal belongings at a house in the 1100 block of Spruce Street on Monday night.
Police started looking for Schroeder at about 9:40 p.m. Monday when a resident of an apartment on West Lauridsen Boulevard called police, saying Schroeder had come to the apartment door with blood on his shirt and what appeared to be an injured hand, Smith said.
Schroeder reportedly told the resident he had been in a fight earlier that night and had stabbed someone, Smith said, but he left the Lauridsen Boulevard apartment before police arrived.
Smith said investigators have received no reports from area hospitals about the man being treated for injuries.
Police are continuing to track down leads in the case.
Smith said investigators aren’t sure why the injured man might not want to contact police.
“There are a variety of reasons why people don’t want to talk to us,” Smith said.
“We’re hoping that his injuries aren’t such that they’ve compromised [his ability to contact police].”

“We’d also encourage the victim to contact us, arrange to meet us and allow us to help him,” Smith said.
