PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol early Sunday after the BMW she was driving crashed into Taco Time, city police said.
Emily Browning was headed eastbound on First Street when she failed to negotiate a turn onto North Chambers Street, lost control and smashed into the side of the restaurant near the drive-through window, Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith said.
The collision caused “substantial damage” to the business at 1105 E. First St., Smith said.
Browning and one passenger in the BMW were not injured.
“Everybody involved was cooperative,” said Smith.
Browning, whose age was not immediately available, was released on bond from the Clallam County jail Sunday, Smith said.
Taco Time was closed Sunday because of the damage, which had been boarded up by noon.
Two fallen palm trees were strewn near a pile of bricks west of the drive-through window.
Tire marks were visible on the grass between the sidewalk and drive-through lane.
City code compliance and public works crews were assisting the business owner, Smith said.
The BMW, which was covered by insurance, sustained frame damage in the crash, Smith said.
He added that the wreck was “representative of the danger of driving under the influence.”
“Fortunately, in this case it’s property damage, not injuries or death,” Smith said.
