PORT ANGELES — The Police Department is considering the installation of video surveillance cameras at three of the city’s most popular recreation sites next year.
“These cameras should make those parks safer for the people there,” Police Chief Tom Riepe said Monday.
The proposed locations are Francis Street Park, City Pier and the Dream Playground at Erickson Park. The cameras would be connected to the city’s new fiber optic network.
The idea is still in the embryonic stage and such aspects as funding are still under study.
Grant funding or a budget request from the City Council are considered two options.
