PORT ANGELES — After more than 30 years of service to the city of Port Angeles, Police Chief Terry Gallagher, 62, announced Friday that he will retire.
Gallagher’s last day will be March 4, 2016, according to a news release.
The city of Port Angeles has already taken the preliminary steps necessary to find a new police chief.
“The city has contracted with the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs to conduct the recruitment and selection process for the new police chief,” said Abbigail Fountain, human resources manager for the city of Port Angeles.
Recruitment will begin in early January with an anticipated hire date of mid-May. It is likely the city will hire an interim police chief once Gallagher retires.
Before being promoted to police chief in 2008, Gallagher held positions as patrol sergeant, detective sergeant and deputy police chief.
