A photo published in the Peninsula Daily News has led to the arrest of a man for the robbery of a Bank of America branch in Port Hadlock.
Robert Daniel Jones, 53, of Port Hadlock surrendered to police as he nursed a $1.75 beer in a Port Angeles sports pub Wednesday morning.
Police were called after the tavern’s owner, Bill Kay, said he recognized the man in the PDN photo — snapped by a bank security camera during the robbery — as the “big spender” who had been buying rounds of drinks with $100 bills.
Police said when arrested Jones was wearing a cowboy hat and western-style shirt like those worn by the bank robber in the photo.
Bank officials would not say how much money was taken in the robbery last Friday of the Bank of America branch at 10 Oak Bay Road, Port Hadlock.
Police said Jones was carrying $3,000 when he was arrested.
Jones was taken into custody at The Office Sports Pub, 1328 E. First St., about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
He is being held in the Clallam County Jail in Port Angeles pending a court appearance.
