PORT ANGELES — A 42-year-old Port Angeles man will be arraigned in Clallam County Superior Court on Jan. 13 on three counts of first-degree rape of a child six and seven years ago.
The arrest of Guy Gregory Garber stemmed from his statement to police in October 1999 that he had molested an 18-month-old girl, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in Superior Court.
At that time, Garber told Port Angeles Police Detective Steve Coyle he had molested the girl between June 1998 and July 1999 and told her she would not see her mother or father again if she informed on him, according to court documents.
Coyle attempted to interview the girl but she “walked to the corner of the room, laid down on the floor and covered her face,”‘ the affidavit said, and Coyle was unable to elicit a statement.
In January 2004, however, the girl was interviewed by Clallam County Deputy Dave Watson, who was investigating possible violation of a no-contact order.
This time, she recounted the incidents and said “she tries to ‘kick it out of her head,”‘ according to court documents.
Garber remained in the Clallam County jail Tuesday with bail set at $25,000 bond by Judge Ken Williams.
