Although almost $2,000 in prizes went to winning crabbers in the second annual Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival’s Port Angeles Crab Derby on Saturday and Sunday, nobody won the caught the crab with the winning number for a 2003 Nissan Xterra from Wilder Toyota.
“Out of the 500 tagged crabs we released, about 110 were captured,” said Victoria McDonald, Crab Derby chairwoman, adding that the catch was twice as large as last year’s.
The derby drew 350 registrants, she said. They tried to catch one of 500 tagged crabs seeded in the harbor.
McDonald said she was disappointed that nobody won the sport-utility vehicle, but she hoped things would be different next year.
“This is definitely a starting point,” she said.
