PORT ANGELES — Two suspicious early morning fires last week, including one that shut down a charitable thrift store, are still under investigation.
One fire just after 1 a.m. Thursday burned a garbage container outside Serenity House Thrift Store.
Then a larger fire spotted about 40 minutes later destroyed a fenced-in storage area at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store and caused heavy damaged to items in the store’s interior.
“My initial assessment is still the same, that they were intentionally set,” Port Angeles Fire Marshal Ken Dubuc said Friday.
“But unfortunately, there was nothing that indicated who or how.”
Dubuc said he believes the blazes were intentional because he could find no ignition sources at the scene.
An independent investigator assigned by the insurance company for the St. Vincent de Paul store is also looking into the fire.
