PORT ANGELES — About two dozen people spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Tempest Youth Center on Monday, painting a mural they hope will reflect the late civil rights leader’s message.
The activity was one of many across the North Olympic Peninsula on Monday in observance of the holiday.
The painters, dressed in their grubbies, laid on the floor using small brushes for the detailed work on the large canvas as music played in the background.
When completed, the mural will hang at the Mount Angeles Boys & Girls Club, 2620 S. Francis St., Port Angeles.
“It’s really nice to finally see it come to life,” said Kelly Jo Hofer, 22, a second-year AmeriCorps volunteer.
“I’ve always had it in my head,” she said.
“Now to finally see it is really great.”
