PORT ANGELES — The state National Guard is “not likely” to add personnel to William R. Fairchild International Airport, according to airport manager Jeff Robb.
Nine Guardsmen were assigned to Port Angeles in mid-September as part of a National Guard deployment at 10 airports around the state. That action was in addition to other efforts to tighten airport security following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
President George W. Bush last week announced a 25 percent increase in Guard airport deployment nationally to lessen delays during the busy holiday travel season.
Robb said he has not received a call regarding more National Guard troops for the Port Angeles airport.
