PORT ANGELES — It would moor up to 50 luxury yachts, each in its own “house.”
Two gated, 25-foot piers linked to the docks would jut out into Port Angeles Harbor from the Ediz Hook shoreline. There could be a seaplane dock, too.
Along with the marina there would be a 6,000-square-foot Lower Elwha Klallam tribal cultural center/museum.
These are the basics of newly renewed plans for the $7 million Elwha Landing Cultural Center and Yacht Marina by a Tacoma developer working with the Lower Elwha tribe.
First proposed almost two years ago, this marina for “megayachts” is finally moving toward reality.
But tricky land transfers to the tribe still need to be completed, there are issues over state tidelands — and one local fisheries expert calls the project a “monstrosity” and worries about the project’s environmental impact.
Still, construction could begin as soon as this fall.
The 50 covered slips would encourage well-to-do yacht owners to come to Port Angeles to have their boats repaired, serviced and restocked with fuel and provisions.
