PORT ANGELES — A private contractor is cleaning up last weekend’s slide that sent about 1,000 cubic yards of mud onto the Waterfront Trail below Olympic Medical Center, covering about 40 feet of the walk and biking path.
The city will pay the contractor, then will be reimbursed by the state.
The funds will come as part of Gov. Gary Locke’s declaration of emergency in the wake of flooding and other damage caused by five days of heavy rains across Clallam County.
“We feel fortunate that’s the only problem we had,” said city Engineering Supervisor Gary Kenworthy.
“It’s not deep-seated — just a surface slide — so there’s no immediate danger,” he said.
