PORT ANGELES — More than 100 people gathered at noon Monday at Veterans Park to demonstrate for a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict with Iraq.
The group stood along Lincoln Street waving signs at passing cars for about an hour.
They then marched down Fourth Street past the Vern Burton Community Center, down Peabody Street and along First Street to the Federal Building downtown.
Then the group marched back to the park, where some demonstrators remained until about 3 p.m. A smaller group gathered at the downtown fountain at First and Laurel streets later in the evening.
Rik Reynolds said the marchers were greeted by people “predominantly in favor” of their cause. A few people drove by shouting obscenities, but Reynolds estimated people were 5-1 in favor of their cause.
